If you see that your average grade for a module is lower than it should be, don't worry. This may be because you haven't yet submitted and had an assignment graded. Below in the article, we will explain how the average module grade is calculated.
Assignments and Assessments Weights
Each module has a set of assignments and assessments for which you receive a grade. Assignments are graded by your Mentor and assessments by the Assessor.
Assignments and assessments in each module have their own weight, which contributes to the calculation of the Module Average Grade. Below is a table where you will find the weights for each of the modules.
| Assignment Weight | Assessment Weight | |
| Tier 1: Module 1, Module 2, Module 3 | 30% | 70% |
| Tier 2: Capstone Module | 17% | 83% |
| Tier 3: All modules | 30% |
70% |
How the Module Average Grade is calculated
The Module Average Grade is calculated using a formula.
Module Average Grade = (Average Assignment Grade * Assignment Weight) +
+ (Average Assessment Grade * Assessment Weight),
where
- Average Assignment Grade - the average of all submitted and graded assignments
in the module
- Average Assessment Grade - the average of all submitted and graded assessments
in the module
- Assignment Weight - the weight of assignments in the module
- Assessment Weight - the weight of assessments in the module
🚨 If you have not yet submitted and had any assignments or assessments graded, the Average Assignment Grade and Average Assessment Grade values are considered to be 0. As soon as you receive a grade for at least one assignment or assessment, the value will be recalculated.
Examples of Module Average Grade calculations
Case 1. Founder has assignments and assessments graded
The Founder is in Module 1. They have two submitted assignments, graded at 93% and 90%. And one submitted assessment, graded at 74%.
Calculation
In the first module, the assignment weight is 30%, and the assessment weight is 70%. Substituting the data into the formula, we get:
Module Average Grade = (Average Assignment Grade * Assignment Weight) +
+ (Average Assessment Grade * Assessment Weight) =
= ((93% + 90%)/2 * 30%) + 74% * 70% = 91.5% * 30% + 74% * 70%= 79%
Case 2. Founder has no assessments graded
The Founder is in Module 1. They have two submitted assignments, graded at 93% and 90%. They have no submitted assessments.
Calculation
In the first module, the assignment weight is 30%, and the assessment weight is 70%. Since there are no graded assessments, the Average Assessment Grade is considered to be 0. Substituting the data into the formula, we get:
Module Average Grade = (Average Assignment Grade * Assignment Weight) +
+ (Average Assessment Grade * Assessment Weight) =
= ((93% + 90%)/2 * 30%) + 0% * 70% = 91.5% * 30% + 0% * 70%= 27%
Case 3. Founder has no assignments graded
The Founder is in Module 1. They have one submitted assessment, graded at 74%. They have no submitted assignments.
Calculation
In the first module, the assignment weight is 30%, and the assessment weight is 70%. Since there are no graded assignments, the average grade for assignments is considered to be 0. Substituting the data into the formula, we get:
Module Average Grade = (Average Assignment Grade * Assignment Weight) +
+ (Average Assessment Grade * Assessment Weight) =
= 0 * 30% + 74% * 70% = 0% * 30% + 74% * 70% = 52%
