2024 edition
1. Welcome
Welcome to Slack, our dynamic communication platform, designed to connect Oneday founders. This guide aims to help you navigate and support your journey with the community. Let's build something extraordinary together!
2. Joining Slack
Upon joining Oneday, our customer support team would have added you to the Oneday Slack workspace. Three essential public channels should be visible to you:
- Main-feed: Your go-to for community-wide announcements.
- Ask-for-help: A space to seek advice beyond the Oneday program.
- Random: For general networking, sharing triumphs, learnings, and inspirations.
Tips:
- Customize Your Profile: Help fellow founders connect with you by detailing your profile such as start date, business website, LinkedIn, and business description. More information can be found here: https://slack.com/intl/en-gb/help/articles/218080037-Getting-started-for-new-Slack-users
- Discover More Channels: You can find and join special interest groups like #London-meetup or #Social-media-boost, go to Channels/Manage/Browse Channels to see the full list. Remember, these are set up by your fellow founders, so initiate contact with the channel creator to align expectations.
3. Channel Guidelines and Etiquette
Main-feed Channel:
- Used for urgent and important community-wide messages.
- Keep it tidy, allowing important announcements to stand out.
Ask-for-help Channel:
- Used for non-program-related queries. Reminder: for Oneday program-related queries, you should raise a customer support ticket via the Oneday platform: platform.oneday.io
- Be specific in your questions (provide context, detailed information, and the intended aim behind the question) to help others easily understand and provide helpful responses.
Random Channel:
A place for networking, sharing achievements, setbacks, and insights. Let's uplift each other!
4. Direct Messaging and Huddles
You can engage one-on-one or in small groups through direct messages or huddles (audio/video). Remember to respect each other's boundaries and maintain professionalism. You are not obliged to respond if it doesn't align with your comfort.
Tip:
Find and pair up with an accountability buddy to motivate and keep each other on track, leveraging direct communication and the Canvas feature for collaborative notes.
5. Communication Best Practices
- Maintain topic clarity by using threads.
- Transfer valuable findings to your personal notes, as Slack histories aren't permanent.
- Mention others judiciously, you are a reflection of your business values.
- For group coordination, consider polls to streamline decisions.
6. Focus on Your Business
The Oneday platform (platform.oneday.io) is your primary resource for learning and growth. While Slack offers great networking opportunities, prioritize time on the Oneday platform to absorb the content, apply, and make time for deep work.
Tip:
Slack can distract. Tailor notifications to your needs, allocate specific times for checking Slack and avoid spending too long on Slack without an aim, ensuring productive use of your time.
You can find more about managing notifications here.
That’s it for the Oneday Founder Slack guide. Below are some reminders.
Support
- For program-specific inquiries, the Oneday platform is your first stop for support.
- Slack serves as a space for founder-initiated dialogue, support, and collaboration.
Security and Privacy
Your privacy and security are paramount. Exercise caution in sharing personal or financial information. Consider Slack as your virtual co-working space—professionalism and vigilance in protecting your data are key.
For any Slack-related queries (e.g. creating a new channel), feel free to reach out to us at events@oneday.io. Together, let's create an inclusive, engaging, and productive community for all Oneday founders. Here's to our shared success!
